Vick and Nike, a match made in Heaven?

Michael Vick is in the spotlight again this time with an old friend. Nike has decided to resign Vick after they dropped him in 2007 due to his trouble with dog fighting. Vick is the only athlete to be dumped by a sports marketing company and picked back up at a later date.
The Philadelphia Eagles Quarterback has been working on his new image ever since he got out of jail by talking with students and trying to influence them to make better decisions. His work is to show that everyone deserves a second chance.
The reason that Vick is so controversial is the reason Nike decided to join forces with him again. People either love Vick or they hate him. Although he is an astounding NFL quarterback, his dog fighting ways upset more fans than anyone could have imagined. Although no exact amount for the endorsement deal has been announced, the deal is in progress.
If Nike is willing to forgive and forget, or rather use an athlete’s misdemeanor as controversy to sell their name, then what can we expect from other companies in the future? Will athletes like Tiger Woods be given another chance with endorsements in another 4 years or will his offenses keep him from more endorsement success?

Even the Dirtiest Dog Can Have a Good Day

Michael Vick was one of the most hated men in the country a few years ago when he was charged and convicted for dog fighting. Now he has turned his life around and wants to help others do the same thing.
Vick surprised two students from Camelot High School at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia with $5,000 scholarships for school. The Camelot schools are alternative schools for students who have dealt with academic, emotional, or disciplinary problems.
The theme for the day was second chances. Everyone has seen Vick turn his life around in the past few years and now that he is almost done making up for his past, he is paying it forward by helping young students achieve their dreams.
The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that no one knew how generous Vick would be with the scholarships that the two students, Monique Joseph and Rickey Savage, will be awarded yearly. Vick picked the students based off of grades, attendance, and participation in student government.
All of the criticism and hate Vick has received in the past has done a complete 180. He is truly trying to make up for his past and do the right thing. Unlike other superstars who send out fake apologies, Vick is going out and working with the people. Do you think we can finally forgive Vick? I know I’ve been ready.

Hero of the Day: Danous Estenor

What would you do if you saw someone in need; help them or walk on as if you had not seen anything? Last February USF lineman, Danous Estenor lifted a 3,500 pound Cadillac to save a man trapped underneath.

The lineman, standing 6’3’’ and 306 pounds said that he was walking to the cafeteria for dinner when he saw the scene. A tow-truck driver was trying to hitch the 1990 Cadillac Seville to the tow-truck but he got caught underneath the front right tire.
Estenor said that as he was walking, the first thing he thought was to continue to dinner as if he had not seen anything. However, with a stroke of bravery and courage he went to help the man who was crying for help.

The car did not budge the first time Estenor tried to lift it, but he said when he thought about how badly hurt the man was and that he would most likely die without help, Estenor built up the strength to lift the car while someone else pulled him out from underneath. Luckily, the man survived with only a few bruises as well as a dislocated shoulder.

It’s not every day a man is trapped underneath a car, but it seems more uncommon to see someone willing to help a stranger in need.
